Application Options for Sapphire Glass And Quartz glass

Sapphire (Al2O3) glass, as a kind of optical window and substrate material with excellent performance, has high transmission in UV/ visible/ infrared wavelengths with transmission range of 170nm-5.5um. It has high temperature resistance (can be used for a long period of time under 1700℃), high hardness (second only to diamond), and resistance to corrosion of acids and alkalis. Sapphire glass can be used as optical window lenses, lens protection glasses, windows, armor windows, wear-resistant windows, optical components, high temperature and impact resistant optical windows, etc..

There are three grades of quartz glass available for use in different wavelength ranges. Additionally, it is an exceptional material for optical windows and substrates. Its hardness and temperature resistance are slightly lower than that of sapphire glass. Due to its outstanding resistance to acids and alkalis, quartz glass can be effectively utilized in thermal processing. As a result, quartz glass serves not only as a high-quality material for optics but also as a superior choice for fabricating acid and alkali resistant containers, laboratory glass instruments, and various optical components.

When we choose between the two materials, both materials can be used for optical purposes. For applications with higher requirements of temperature and pressure, sapphire glass is the preferred material, while quartz glass is the preferred material for thermal processing.
