Introduction of Optical Quartz Glass

Sapphire Glass & Quartz Glass Custom Fabrication

Quartz glass has excellent light transmission throughout the wavelength, and in the infrared region (except for special infrared glass), the spectral transmission range of quartz glass is larger than that of ordinary glass. Quartz glass has a transmittance of 93% in the visible region, and in the ultraviolet spectral region, especially in the short wave, transmission of it is much better than other glasses. The optical properties of quartz glass are largely determined by its chemical properties, and even 0.001% of impurities can significantly affect product quality. Excessive metal impurities will change wavelength direction, and the presence of hydroxyl groups will absorb light in 2.73µm band.

There are three types of domestic optical quartz glass: JGS1 far-ultraviolet quartz glass, with application spectral wavelength 185-2000nm, is made of synthetic Silica, using Sicl4 as raw material. JGS2 ultraviolet quartz glass, with application spectral wavelength  220-2500nm, using crystal as raw material, is produced by gas refining method. JGS3 infrared optical quartz glass, with application spectral wavelength 260-3500nm, using crystal or high purity quartz sand as raw materials, is produced by vacuum pressure furnace.

Distinguish Applications According to Spectral Properties

Quartz glass is the best glass with transmission on ultraviolet, visible light and near-infrared, and can be arbitrarily selected from 168nm-3500nm spectral wavelength according to needs.

Name of glass and its corresponding spectral wavelength (nm)

JGS1 far-ultraviolet optical quartz glass: application spectral wavelength 185-2000nm

JGS2 ultraviolet optical quartz glass: application spectral wavelength 220-2500nm

JGS3 infrared optical quartz glass: application spectral wavelength 260-3500nm

JGS1 far-ultraviolet optical quartz glass

It is transparent in the ultraviolet and visible spectrum; There is no absorption band in spectral range of 185-2500nm and strong absorption band in spectral range of 2600-2800nm; It is non-luminous, and has stable light radiation.

JGS2 ultraviolet optical quartz glass

It is transparent in the ultraviolet and visible spectrum; There is no absorption band in spectral range of 220-2500nm and strong absorption band in spectral range of 2600-2800nm; It is non-luminous, and has stable light radiation. It is a kind of optical quartz glass made by melting high-grade crystal powder with hydrogen and oxygen flame, and it has good transmission in spectral range 220-2500nm. Its infrared transmission is the same as that of far-ultraviolet quartz glass.

JGS3 infrared optical quartz glass

It is transparent in the visible and infrared spectrum; There is no obvious absorption band in spectral range 2600-2800nm.

Technique

Cutting (square/ round/ special-shaped); drilling (square/ round/ special-shaped holes); grinding (straight/ round/ beveled edges); grooving (customized to drawings); thickness (can be machined to 0.1mm).

Sophisticated and fine grinding techniques are used to guarantee excellent surface quality.

The visible light transmittance is more than 90%.

Applications of Quartz Glass

Quartz glass with its excellent physical and chemical properties is widely used in semiconductor technology, new electric light sources, production of color TV phosphors, chemical processes, ultra-high voltage dust collection, far-infrared radiation heating equipment, aerospace technology, optical systems for certain weapons and optical instruments, atomic energy technology, refractory materials for float glass and alkali glass cellars, crucibles for special glass, bowls for instrument glass forming parts, ultraviolet sterilization lamps, production of various non-ferrous metals, and many other fields. Quartz glass has a SiO2 content greater than 99.99%, low coefficient of thermal expansion, high temperature resistance, good chemical stability, transparency of ultraviolet and infrared light, high melting temperature, high viscosity, and difficult molding. Commonly used in semiconductor, electric light source, optical communication, laser and other technologies and optical instruments.
