Compared with sapphire glass and quartz glass, K9 glass has moderate hardness and density, making it relatively easy to process. The fabrication of K9 triangular prisms is a straightforward process. The whole material is initially cut and shaped on a CNC machining centre, and subsequently polished on a grinder. K9 material is an excellent optical base material. Because triangular prisms require better light transmission to optimise their optical properties, in normal environments, K9 material is often used as a base material for the production of various prisms.

- With excellent optical properties, K9 glass is widely used in optical coating and other fields.Its optical constants refers to refractive index =1.51630, dispersion =0.00806, abbe number =64.06.
- The density of K9 glass is 2.5 ~ 2.6g/cm3, and the weight is moderate. The hardness is 5.5 Mohs, resistant to a certain degree of scratch and wear.These physical properties make it suitable for a wide range of processes, such as cutting, edging, special-shaping, drilling, coating, tempering, frosting, polishing, etc..
- The melting point is about 700℃, and it has good stability in normal use environments.
